I cannot thank Dr Ali and the team enough! I struggled with my squint from about 8 years old, and it progressively got worse. I was told there was nothing that could be done for me on the NHS and that I would just have to live with it. Then I found Dr Ali, who, from the first video call to 8 weeks post surgery, has been nothing short of amazing. So friendly and comforting, and was able to be contacted whenever I needed. He has given me my confidence back, and I am so grateful! If you are considering this surgery, go for it!

I had been suffering from double vision (Diplopia) and was diagnosed with 4th Cranial Nerve Weakness in my left eye in November 2024. A prism was fitted to my glasses and although it helped with the centre of my vision, my downward and far right gaze remained badly affected. By September 2025 my mental health started to become badly affected, I was mentally exhausted and my quality of life was seriously declining. I started to research a surgical solution. I initially used an AI app which rated Mr Ali as the best in his field, I did extensive further research, I found zero negatives. There is a very long waiting list for NHS surgery and getting on the list isn't easy. With all due respect to the NHS, I couldn't wait 3 years for an NHS surgeon, I needed help quickly, I needed the best of the best. By January 2026, I felt I could no longer work, I felt I maybe wasn't capable of doing my job anymore and my GP signed me off sick. I was mentally exhausted, basic tasks such as pouring a drink, ironing, and walking down stairs had became difficult. I eventually arranged an appointment for March 2026. Although video consultation was an option, it was important to me to meet Mr Ali in person so I flew to London from Glasgow. I was initially seen by Orthoptist Rhiannon who did my measurements. I could see the genuine belief she had that Mr Ali would be able to help. I had so many questions I wanted to ask, but by the time the consultation with Mr Ali had ended I didn't need to ask anything, he had covered everything I needed to know. I left the consultation with hope that the nightmare of the previous two years could soon come to an end. I had surgery to realign my eyes on April 13th, I flew to London the day before, stayed overnight in the Travelodge which is a 5 minute walk from Gatwick Spire Hospital and went to the hospital at 7AM on the day of the surgery. A couple of hours after I went back to my room, Mr Ali came in and told me exactly what to expect in the coming days, he gave me his number so I could contact him on WhatsApp if I needed to, but everything went exactly as he said it would, although I didn't need to use it, knowing he was there if I needed him was extremely reassuring. Three days after the surgery when I woke up, I noticed that the TV at the bottom of my bed was single in a position I'd normally have seen double, the 24/7 awareness of the condition in my peripheral vision had completely gone. As the days went on it felt like my central vision had gone from standard definition to 8KHD, this was a huge bonus which I hadn't expected. It is not a painful operation, the following days there's a slight ache and the stitches feel like there is a bit of grit under the eye, it is a very minor irritation, there is a regime of antibiotic eye drops and steroid eye drops, two weeks after the operation there is very little visible evidence that you've even had surgery at all. I'm only on day 25 and the result has already way surpassed my expectations and is most likely to continue to improve. If I had to put a figure on it I would say there is in excess of a 90% improvement in my vision, my functional field of vision is now better than I could have hoped, there is zero double vision, it feels like I imagine the result of laser eye surgery would feel, the blurriness has completely gone, I can now read small print on things like food instructions without glasses (which I previously needed to use my phone to magnify) and was able to return to work a week after surgery. I can see better now without glasses than I could wearing them before surgery. I will be eternally grateful to everyone at London Squint Clinic, and most of all to Mr Ali for the difference this has made to my life. If you are considering making an appointment I strongly recommend doing so. Private surgery is obviously expensive, but you couldn't put a monetary figure on the difference this has already made to my life in such a short period of time. I can now look forward to the future instead of dreading it

Mr Ali provided outstanding care from the very beginning. My 16 year old son, Kris, recently had surgery to correct a squint in both eyes, and the whole experience was handled with great professionalism and kindness. Everything was explained in a clear and reassuring way, which helped Kris feel calm and confident going into the procedure. The surgery was a success and we are delighted with the results. It has already made a big difference to Kris's confidence. We are very thankful to Mr Ali and his team and would not hesitate to recommend him!

From start to finish I was looked after tremendously. After having a squint left over from childhood, it really began to bother me in my adulthood, to the point that I decided to have surgery. I did over 6 months of researching I decided to have my surgery with Dr Ali, which I’m so pleased that I did. My appointments were so convenient and no waiting for months on end, I was booked in for surgery 3 weeks after my initial appointment. The surgery went well and I was thoroughly looked after, I had no pain and my recovery was very easy, at 9 weeks post op I am so pleased with my results! A small amount of redness left and I am on my way to enjoying my life without the constant paranoia around my eye alignment or avoiding eye contact. Thankyou Dr Ali.

The BEST decision! Having one's eye operated on is a huge undertaking, anything could happen. After some research I decided to go for the best. Sure enough it was. From start to finish, easy, well looked after, operation went smoothly, after op care addressed all my concerns in a calm and professionnal way. Now I can see a single image again, which is good news for a photographer! The results are mind blowing, Worth every penny. Thank you Dr Ali, you're a star!

Time to say goodbye to double vision
Get out of prism glasses with surgery
Reclaim single vision
Imagine being able to wake up and see everything clear and single. No more double objects, blur, difficulty judging distances, tackling steps, problems reading. No more confusion from things on the side appearing in front of you. We take single vision for granted. Only people with double vision appreciate what it would mean to get that back.

Remember the life you used to have
Get back to enjoying all the things which double vision took away: reading for pleasure, outdoor activities, sports, driving. Double vision doesn’t just affect your eyes, it constricts your life. And you get used to it just because you have to. But with double vision surgery you can once more live the life you used to enjoy.
Throw away your prism glasses
Prism glasses can be good for some people. But for others they are just a pain. They don’t fix the problem in different directions or distances. They don’t work great for when you are moving about. Costly, thick, heavy and always need updating. And once you are in them, you are trapped. Unless you have double vision surgery. Most of our patients can get rid of their prism glasses after surgery and return to how they used to see before: no-prism glasses, contact lenses, or nothing.

DOUBLE VISION SURGERY OFFERS HOPE
When our patients are first told that they can have double vision surgery, it is often a very emotional moment. Finally they have hope that their double vision will come to an end and they can get back to a normal life.

Meet your surgeon
Mr Nadeem Ali is a world expert in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of Double Vision.
There are many eye surgeons who do mainly cataract and a bit of squint surgery on the side. There are many who do general ophthalmology for children and a bit of kids’ and adult squint surgery on the side.
But there are very few people in the world who specialise 100% in squint and double vision surgery in adults. Mr Ali does just that.
He holds the following degrees:
- MA – Triple First class (Cambridge). He was top of the year for 2 out of 3 years.
- MB BChir with distinction (Cambridge)
- MRCOphth (Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London)
- FRCSEd(Ophth) (Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh).
Born in the North East of England, Mr Ali attended the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
He studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and graduated with a Triple First Class degree.
His College, Gonville and Caius, was the leading medical college at the University and boasts alumni such as William Harvey (who discovered the circulation of the blood) and Francis Crick (who discovered DNA). During his undergraduate years, he was selected for a Summer Research Programme at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York, the labs of James Watson (the other discovered of DNA), where he studied the developing visual system with Neuroscientist Prof Hollis Cline. He also completed his undergraduate degree in Neurophysiology, conducting research with Prof Roger Carpenter, a pioneer of eye movement research.
He won 15 academic prizes and was top student of the University in medicine for two years of his course. He was also awarded the prestigious Schuldham Plate, given to the top-performing student over all academic subjects, over the three years of undergraduate study.
He completed his medical school at the University of Cambridge Clinical School, graduating with distinction.
Mr Ali completed his general Ophthalmic training in the North East of England.
He then pursued a Fellowship with Mike Clarke, a world-expert on squint and double vision, who taught him much of what he knows.
After that, he undertook a fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square wher he gained experience in complex neurological causes of double vision.
He also did a Fellowship Squint and Double Vision surgery at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
He was then uniquely privileged to undergo a further 18 months of advanced, 1:1 training in squint and double vision surgery with Mr John Lee (deceased), probably the world’s leading squint expert.

Double vision surgery Frequently Asked Questions
To be a good candidate for double vision surgery, you should meet the following criteria:
- Be between 18 and 100 years old.
- Experience double vision, which means you see two images of one object.
- Or experience visual confusion, which means objects appear in the wrong place.
- You might or might not have a visible eye turn or squint.
- You might or might not have tried prism glasses, which are special glasses to help with double vision.
- You may have been denied surgery through the NHS.
- You may have been told that surgery is not an option elsewhere.
Double vision surgery aims to fix misalignment in the eyes that causes seeing two images of one object.
During the surgery, the eye muscles are adjusted to improve their alignment. This can involve tightening or loosening the muscles to correct their position. The goal is to make both eyes work together, so you see a single, clear image instead of two.
Recovery involves some rest and follow-up visits to ensure the eyes are healing properly and functioning well together.
Advantages:
- High Success Rate: 95%, meaning most patients see significant improvement.
- Quick Procedure: Usually completed in less than an hour.
Anesthesia Options: Choice of local or general anaesthesia. - Short Wait Time: Surgery can be done within a few weeks from the first consultation.
- Day Case Surgery: No overnight stay required.
Immediate Benefits: Many patients notice improvement from day 1. - Minimal Pain: Most patients experience very little discomfort afterward.
Disadvantages:
- Low Risk of Complications: Very rare, less than 1 in 1,000, but risks such as infection or adverse reactions to anaesthesia are possible.
- Temporary Discomfort: Some patients may experience mild pain, swelling, or discomfort.
- Potential Need for Further Adjustments: Not all patients achieve perfect results and may need additional procedures.
Double vision surgery is very safe, even safer than cataract surgery.
However, like any surgery, there are some risks. These include:
- Overcorrection or undercorrection, where the problem might not be fully fixed.
- The need for another surgery in about 5% of cases.
- New or ongoing double vision in about 2% of patients.
- Loss of vision, which is very rare, affecting less than 1 in 4,000 people.
- Redness or scarring on the white part of the eye.
- A slight change in the shape of the eyelid.
Overall, the risks are low, and most patients see great results.
Prism glasses bend light to correct its path, aligning images on the retina and reducing double vision by helping the brain merge them into one clear view.
Botox:
Botox injections can also alleviate double vision temporarily by relaxing eye muscles. However, Botox requires repeated treatments every few months and can worsen vision initially,
Double vision surgery offers a more stable and permanent solution.
- Book an initial video consultation to see if surgery is right for you and discuss your options.
- Get pre-surgery measurements, which can be done in London or in several locations in the UK or beyond. Sometimes, these can be taken on the day of surgery.
- Undergo the surgery as a day case, meaning you don’t stay overnight.
- Say goodbye to prism glasses and start enjoying clear vision right away!
- Attend two follow-up appointments, one in 2 weeks and another in 2 months, to check your progress and healing.
Getting your freedom back
- Freedom from prism glasses
- Freedom to drive
- Freedom to read
- Freedom to work on a computer
- Freedom to enjoy sports and hobbies
